ISSEY PURPOSE-BUILDS UNIQUE SUN SOLUTION FOR BOAT

The Client
A private boat owner in Silverwater, NSW was seeking an external awning for his boat.

After visiting a DesignBuild exhibition in Sydney, he found that Issey’s ability to customise and purpose-build products was exactly what he needed for his unique project.

The Challenge
The boat owner was interested in a retractable awning that would shade the back deck of his Flybridge Cruiser luxury boat, protecting him and his guests from heat and glare while fishing or relaxing. Whilst being functional, the owner also wanted the system to blend well with the style and feel of the boat.

Issey was also challenged with customising a method of securing a shading system to the vessel without drilling into any of the boat’s fibreglass or aluminium.

The sun shade also needed to be able to withstand slight wind and the extremely salty environment of the sea, resisting rust and corrosion from the ocean air.

Proposed Solution
Issey’s Laguna folding arm awning acts as a roll-out roof, without obtrusive poles or structures, to offer shade and sun protection to the back deck of the boat.

The 3.44m x 3m Laguna was fitted with an acrylic fabric to block UV rays, offer glare and heat protection, allowing for greater comfort and relaxation while entertaining and fishing on the vessel.

The Job
The Laguna effectively blocks UV radiation and the sun’s uncomfortable heat and glare. The system is also wind resistant and able to withstand ocean breezes.

Because Issey could not drill on the boat, purpose-built stainless steel, marine grade 316 brackets were utilised to strongly secure the system. The brackets are resistant to the sea’s corrosive air so that their strength will be maintained over time.

The aluminium fittings on the Issey Laguna had to be specially powdercoated to protect the system’s frameworks against the salty ocean environment.

Project Wrap Up
With Issey’s customisation and purpose-built solutions, the private owner achieved a shady haven in which he could comfortably fish, relax, and spend time with friends and family.

The boat’s new shading system blends seamlessly into the style of the vessel, whilst offering optimal sun protection.

Issey met the owner’s requirements and faced each challenge with a functional answer.
