PERMISSION & DESIGNING
Do I need planning permission if I want to use an Awning instead of a Pergola or Car Port?
Generally, no. Because all of our awnings are fully retractable, you do not need planning permission for domestic applications. Councils such as the Woollahra Council in NSW have used our systems on their own offices. If you are unsure, we recommend contacting your local council.
I live in a strata unit. Are sun shades allowed there?
Because awnings and blinds are colourful, attractive, energy-saving design features, most strata associations are receptive to adding them to the exterior of a building. Typically the approval has to go through the association’s committee.
Issey are already the Strata approved sun shades for many building associations.
Should I specify the shades before the house is built?
Most of our work is carried out on existing homes, but if you are at the design or building stage there are some things you can incorporate. Already allowing for the wiring or fixing points or creating recesses to house, the headbox can make our systems even more unobtrusive.
